State Sponsored Amtrak Service

State Sponsored Amtrak Service

History

Since Virginia state-sponsored service began in Lynchburg in 2009, the Commonwealth has expanded its operations and now provides grant funds for four intercity passenger routes. Along the Northeast Regional Line in Virginia, a total of six state-sponsored, roundtrip trains run daily through grant agreements with Amtrak. These trains then continue into Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, offering a one-seat ride to destinations including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston. Over the next decade, VPRA will continue seeking opportunities to enhance and expand passenger rail connections across and into the Commonwealth.
