Cynthia Lawrence

Cynthia Lawrence is Director of the Office of Workforce Development at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia.

Ms. Lawrence is the founding President of the Blue Ridge Partnership for Health Science Careers, focused on addressing healthcare workforce needs in western Virginia. She serves on the Greater Roanoke Workforce Development Board, the Virginia Chamber Workforce and Education Committee, and the Advisory Board for the Department of Management at Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business.

She was appointed to the Virginia Lottery Board by Governor Kaine and reappointed by Governor McAuliffe, completing her third term in 2025 after serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the Operations Committee. From 2011 to 2023, she served on the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport Commission, including two terms as Chair.

Ms. Lawrence is President of the Board of House of Bread Roanoke, supporting formerly incarcerated women with job skills, education, and housing. She is past President of the Boards of the Science Museum of Western Virginia and the Virginia Museum of Transportation, and a former board member of several regional nonprofits including the Community Foundation for Western Virginia and Virginia Opera.

She has co-chaired fundraising efforts for the United Way of Roanoke Valley and the National MS Society. Her civic leadership has earned numerous honors, including the Silver Hope Award from the MS Society (2018), the Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2022), and the Junior League of Roanoke Valley’s Constellation Community Impact Award (2024).
