NEWS RELEASE – February 8, 2023
Customers can receive discount on tickets for select events
RICHMOND & WASHINGTON, DC – Amtrak and the Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA) are offering a convenient and comfortable way to travel to Richmond to attend the 2023 Virginia Wine Expo February 25–March 5. The expo’s signature events will take place at the Main Street Station in downtown Richmond.
Amtrak Northeast Regional trains offer direct service to the Main Street Station from Newport News, Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and as far north as Boston.
Amtrak Virginia is a sponsor of the expo, which gives visitors an opportunity to sample wine, spirits and ciders from wineries in the Commonwealth. Customers who travel to Richmond on Amtrak for the event between March 1–5 are eligible to receive 25% off tickets for events at Main Street Station by using use the Amtrak Virginia Wine Expo discount code, VWEAmtrak25.
“We welcome the opportunity to introduce rail travel to a new audience and provide a convenient travel option to this year’s Virginia Wine Expo in Richmond,” said DJ Stadtler, Executive Director of VPRA. “Partnering with the expo, we are able to bring wine enthusiasts from throughout Virginia and points beyond to enjoy Virginia’s best wines and local cuisine at historic Main Street Station.”
Amtrak offers easy and convenient travel between city centers, free Wi-Fi, the freedom to use phones and electronic devices (no “airplane mode”), Quiet Cars for those who want a library-like environment to work, read or doze, the ability to travel with small pets on many trains, large spacious seats with ample leg room, and no middle seat.
Virginia Anytime Fares offer a 15% discount for travel within Virginia and to/from Washington, D.C. From the Amtrak app, use discount code V552.
“Amtrak is a great way to travel to Richmond and experience cultural activities and events without worrying about highway traffic congestion,” said Jeff Mann, Amtrak Senior Director of State Supported Services.
VPRA supports four Amtrak Northeast Regional trains that provide daily service to Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, and Roanoke and a same-seat trip to other cities in the Northeast. Amtrak restored service to Main Street Station in 2003. The station is a National Historic Landmark located in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom district.
Ridership on these Virginia trains is up significantly — more than it was pre-pandemic — making the Commonwealth one of the most popular travel destinations on the Amtrak network.
