(Washington, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will implement traffic changes along Maine Avenue SW and the I-395 southbound ramp as part of construction activities for the Long Bridge Project, including the new pedestrian bridge over Maine Avenue SW.

  • Local Two-Way Conversion: A portion of the access road will be temporarily converted into a local two-way street, with entry from D Street SW.
  • Access to the 1331 Maryland Avenue parking garage and loading dock will remain open.
  • Motorists traveling westbound on Maine Avenue SW must detour via 12th Street SW or 15th Street SW / Raoul Wallenberg Place SW to reach northbound 14th Street SW and Independence Avenue SW.
  • The westbound access road to northbound 14th Street SW on Maine Avenue SW will be closed to through traffic.
    • On-street parking in the affected area will not be available.
  • Crews will install temporary pavement markings and concrete barriers, reducing Maine Avenue SW to two lanes in the westbound direction. This condition will remain in effect through 2027.
  • Between 8:00 pm and 4:00 am a temporary lane closure will occur on the ramp from I-395 southbound to Maine Avenue SW during placement of the concrete barriers.

Traffic controls, including signage, and detour information, will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the area. DDOT urges all travelers to stay alert, follow posted signage, and use caution near the construction zone. These detours are needed for construction activities associated with the Long Bridge Project.
