Temporary Lane Closures on Southbound George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) / Ramp from I-395 North

A digital rendering of the proposed Long Bridge Project depicts a new two-track rail bridge spanning the Potomac River between Arlington, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. The design features a modern steel structure supported by concrete piers, running parallel to the existing Long Bridge. This addition aims to enhance rail capacity and improve connectivity in the region.

Temporary Lane Closures on

Southbound George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) / Ramp from I-395 North

Dates: On or about August 5, 2025

(Arlington, VA) The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA), in coordination with the National Park Service (NPS), will implement right lane closures on southbound GWMP and the ramps from I-395 on or about Tuesday, August 5, 2025, during off-peak travel hours between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting.

The lane closures are necessary for utility investigations to support the drainage and utility designs for the Long Bridge Project.

Motorists should expect intermittent delays and are urged to use caution when traveling through the area. Please follow all posted signage and directions from on-site personnel for the traveling public’s safety and the safety of work crews.

Thank you for your patience as we support the development of this critical infrastructure project.
