(Arlington, VA) — The Virginia Passenger Rail Authority (VPRA), in coordination with the National Park Service (NPS), will implement several overnight lane closures on the George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) beginning Monday, August 18, 2025, to support geotechnical investigations for the Long Bridge Project.

Scheduled Closures:

Northbound left lane closure to allow crews to drill borings in the median and roadway.
  • Thursday, August 21 | 7:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m.
Southbound left lane closure for boring operations in the median and roadway.
  • Friday, August 22 | 7:00 p.m. – 5:30 a.m.
Southbound right lane closure to drill borings in the roadway and shoulder.

These activities are essential for conducting geotechnical investigations to inform the design and construction of the Long Bridge Project.

Motorists should expect intermittent delays and are urged to use caution when traveling through the work zone. Please follow all posted signage and instructions from on-site personnel to ensure the safety of both workers and the traveling public.

We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as we move forward with this critical infrastructure improvement.
