Recent Service Cancellations
VPRA would like to apologize to customers for a recent rash of train cancellations causing disruption of our service and inconveniencing hundreds of passengers. Providing safe and reliable rail service is always our goal, and we have fallen short in the endeavor recently.
As Amtrak rebounds from the pandemic, staffing shortages continue to be a challenge resulting in last-minute cancellations. We rely on Amtrak to provide the crews to operate our trains, and when those crews are not available, the reliability of our service suffers. Read More…
Winter Weather Service Advisory

With the impending winter storm that will impact western Virginia and points west, Amtrak has canceled the following trains operating through Virginia:
51 (December 21st)
50 (December 22nd)
51 (December 23rd)
50 (December 24th)
In addition, Amtrak is closely monitoring trains in the Roanoke and Tidewater regions. Up to a half inch of ice is projected starting Wednesday night in the Lynchburg/Roanoke area and strong wind gusts up to 60mph are projected for Friday in the Tidewater area.
