VPRA would like to apologize to customers for a recent rash of train cancellations causing disruption of our service and inconveniencing hundreds of passengers.  Providing safe and reliable rail service is always our goal, and we have fallen short in the endeavor recently. 

As Amtrak rebounds from the pandemic, staffing shortages continue to be a challenge resulting in last-minute cancellations.  We rely on Amtrak to provide the crews to operate our trains, and when those crews are not available, the reliability of our service suffers. 

We want our customers to know that preventing future cancellations is a priority for us, and we continue to work with Amtrak to determine how to ensure our state-supported service is fully- staffed every day.   

Our recent record ridership shows that you want rail service throughout the Commonwealth, and it is up to our partners and us to provide a service that is safe and reliable. 

We sincerely apologize for anyinconvenience these service disruptions have caused our customers. We’re continuing to look for ways to eliminate these cancellations.
